Snuggie Phenomena

Anyone ever heard of a Snuggie? It sounded like an infomercial just waiting to happen... (I later found out it was...) I just read the story on USA TODAY about this product under their "Unlikely Stories" section.

For those of you who have no idea (like I did) about what a Snuggie is- it's a fleece blanket with sleeves so you never have to move off your couch! (Oh boy...another reason to be a fat lazy American)

"The Cult of the Snuggie threatens to take over America!" That was the lead and boy did it grab my attention.

The article talks about how Snuggie's have become a part of pop culture because of extensive and spoofing media coverage (Facebook, YouTube, Jay Leno, Ellen DeGeneres, Fox News, Snuggie-loving websites, and even Snuggie drinking games.)

Is Snuggie becoming such a phenomena because people actually like the product? Or because they see it spoofed by their favorite late night snow host and want to check it out?

Either way- Constant talk about their product is excellent free public relations work for them.
